You’ll get several on here that will say to use spaghetti sauce and that is just wrong. Ugh.
Make your own sauce using a mixture of tomato sauce and paste, depending on how thick or think you like it. Add to that sugar, an envelope of zesty spaghetti sauce seasoning and garlic, salt and pepper or seasonings that you prefer. Keep tasting. Sugar is important because it cuts the acidity of the tomato sauce/paste down.
While the sauce is cooking, cover and let it simmer.
You should be browning a mixture of ground beef and sausage, I cook mine up in some olive oil and a couple cloves of crushed garlic. When down, drain and add to your sauce. Of course you should be boiling your water at the same time and cook your noodles.
Put a layer of meat sauce in the bottom of your pan to prevent the bottom layer from sticking. Then begin layering your noodles, meat sauce, your ricotta (or I use cottage cheese/egg mix) then a layer of mozzarella. Continue layering until you end up with the mozzarella on top.
Bake 325 for about an hour. I cover for about the first 45 minutes, than let it bake the last 15 with no foil on and after you remove it let it sit for another 15. And then eat up!!
